King David made Jerusalem Israel’s capital some 3,000 years ago, and his son Solomon built the First Temple.

The city was sacked and the First Temple was destroyed by Nebuchadnezzar and the Babylonians during the siege of Jerusalem of 587 BCE.

Jerusalem was redeemed and the Second Temple was built in the 6th century BCE.

It was destroyed by Titus and the Romans Legions in 70 CE.

In 1948, during Israel’s Independence War, the city again fell to the advancing Jordanian Legion which leveled the Jewish Quarter and destroyed its synagogues.

Jerusalem was finally liberated and unified by Israel during the 1967 Six-Day War.

Israelis returning to the Jewish Quarter found fascinating findings under the rubble that were educating about Jerusalem’s past, and possibly it’s future.

TPS was at Jerusalem’s Old City to take a closer look.
