Haley blasts left-wing attacks on Israel as rockets fall

0

It is a shame that some on the left are pushing misinformation and anti-Israel propaganda that stokes the flames,” Haley tweeted.

By David Isaac, World Israel News

Former U.S Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley expressed her support for Israel on Twitter as the country copes with Arab street violence, rockets launched from the Gaza Strip, veiled criticism from foreign countries and unsympathetic press coverage.

In a tweet Monday, she wrote, “Jerusalem is being attacked by violent rioters and the terrorist group Hamas. It is a shame that some on the left are pushing misinformation and anti-Israel propaganda that stokes the flames. Stop the rockets, stop the violence.”

Two hours earlier she had wished Israel a happy Jerusalem Day, which fell on Monday, and celebrates the reunification of the city in the Six Day War. She attached a picture of herself and her husband, Michael Haley, in Jerusalem’s Old City.

Israel has dealt with an escalating security situation for the last several weeks as Arabs rioted during the month of Ramadan, which began on April 13. The situation hit a new low on Monday when, after a weekend of rioting, Hamas joined the fray, launching missiles at Jerusalem and bombarding the Gaza envelope with rockets. Over 200 rockets were fired overnight at Israel. Israel is responding with retaliatory strikes.

Hamas delivered an ultimatum to Israel just prior to its attack early Monday evening, demanding Israel remove its forces from the Temple Mount. It may be the most brazen demand the terror group has made and possibly the first time it has attempted to dictate to Israel its actions in its own capital.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Monday evening: “Israel will respond with great force.”

Biden speaks to Netanyahu amid continued rocket attacks from Gaza: Israel has a right to defend itself when you have thousands of rockets flying into your territory.

Elad Benari , May 12 , 2021

US President Joe Biden said on Wednesday that he spoke to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu about the rocket attacks from Gaza.

“My expectation and hope this will be closing down sooner than later. Israel has a right to defend itself when you have thousands of rockets flying into your territory,” he said.

Earlier on Wednesday, US Secretary of State Blinken also spoke with Netanyahu.

According to a spokesman for the US State Department, “The Secretary expressed his concerns regarding the barrage of rocket attacks on Israel, his condolences for the lives lost as a result, and the United States’ strong support for Israel’s right to defend itself.”

“The Secretary and the Prime Minister discussed the ongoing violence in Jerusalem, and the Secretary reiterated his call on all parties to deescalate tensions and bring a halt to the violence. The Secretary emphasized the need for Israelis and Palestinians to be able to live in safety and security, as well as enjoy equal measures of freedom, security, prosperity, and democracy.

“Secretary Blinken and Prime Minister Netanyahu acknowledged the steadfast partnership between the United States and Israel and committed to working together on challenges ahead.”

On Tuesday, US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan spoke with Israeli National Security Advisor Meir Ben Shabbat.

According to a statement from the White House, Sullivan “condemned the ongoing rocket attacks by Hamas and other terrorist groups, including against Jerusalem and Tel Aviv. He conveyed the President’s unwavering support for Israel’s security and for its legitimate right to defend itself and its people, while protecting civilians.”

Sullivan “also conveyed the United States’ encouragement of steps toward restoring a sustainable calm. They agreed to continue to stay in close touch,” said a statement form the White House.

Biden also wrote a letter to Palestinian Authority chairman Mahmoud Abbas asking him to end the current escalation with Israel.

German police detain more than a dozen men for anti-Semitic attacks

Three men in their early 20s admitted to throwing rocks at a synagogue in Bonn and burning an Israeli flag.

German police detained more than a dozen men on Wednesday for anti-Semitic attacks in three cities that included throwing rocks at a synagogue and starting a fire at a memorial for a synagogue destroyed in 1938 in the Nazi-led Kristallnacht.

German politicians condemned the events, calling them anti-Semitic attacks, reported Reuters.

Police said three men in their early 20s were detained on Tuesday night and released after they admitted to throwing rocks at the windows of a synagogue in Bonn and burning an Israeli flag. The attackers said that the violence between Israelis and Palestinians this week motivated them to do so, according to the report.

In the city of Muenster, police detained 13 people who burned Israeli flags outside a synagogue, charging them with holding an illegal public gathering.

“We will tolerate no anti-Semitism,” said Armin Laschet, premier of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, where the incident occurred. She is the candidate from German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s conservative bloc in the upcoming September elections.

Josef Schuster, president of Germany’s Central Council of Jews, called for more protection of the country’s Jewish sites.

“Israel and Jews as a whole are subjected to hatred and incitement, particularly on social media. The protection of Jewish institutions must be increased,” he said, according to AFP.

Stefanik Promises ‘Unified Conservative Vision’ For House Leadership

0

Rep. Elise Stefanik, R-N.Y., the clear frontrunner to replace Rep. Liz Cheney as House Republican Conference chairperson, Wednesday officially asked her GOP colleagues for their support for the seat and called for a “unified conservative vision” moving forward.

“Despite the media’s endless attempts to divide us, our members are united in our laser focus on defeating the radical Socialist Democrat agenda of President (Joe) Biden and Speaker (Nancy) Pelosi,” Stefanik wrote in her letter, which she posted on Twitter. “Our members believe that the stakes are far too high for us to be divided.”

She added that Republicans stand “shoulder-to-shoulder in believing that we have a historic opportunity to work as a team to win back the Majority in 2022 on behalf of the American people and save our great country.”

UPDATE: Chaos spreads through Jewish-Arab cities amid harrowing scenes of violence

0

Multiple people badly hurt, several apparent lynchings; overnight curfew in Lod repeatedly broken. Violence in other cities.

The curfew in the city was immediately broken as Arabs clashed with police.

A curfew and a state of emergency was declared in the city of Lod, which has been the scene of Arab riots the last two nights. However, that did not stop disturbances from breaking out on Wednesday night.

The curfew began at 8:00 p.m. and is in force until 4:00 a.m. But Arabs came out in force, throwing rocks and stun grenades while clashing with police. Lod, a crime-ridden city due to Arab gangs, is awash in illegal guns and fears have been expressed that the clashes may turn into something still more deadly.

A fight broke out between Arabs and Jews, which was quickly broken up by Israeli security forces. Jews from outside the city have been streaming into the city, angered by the scenes of Arabs running riot and attacking Jews. The arrival of Jews from other parts of the country have raised fears of more clashes.

Jews have expressed anger at the failure of police to contain the riots. Earlier on Wednesday, demonstrators gathered to protest at the Lod District Court, which rejected an appeal to release a Jewish suspect in the shooting of an Arab rioter overnight Monday.

Because of the clashes, train service to Lod has been halted.

Violence in other cities has been reported. In Acre, a Jewish man in his 30s was nearly lynched by an Arab mob on Wednesday night. He’s listed in serious condition, anesthetized and intubated in hospital. Jews marching in the city, the scene of riots on Tuesday night, were also attacked by Arabs on Wednesday night.

In Bat Yam, Jews attacked a driver who they believed was an Arab. He was beaten on live TV as Israeli viewers were treated to the shocking site of a man lying senseless on the street receiving punches next to his car, which had struck another vehicle. A participant said that the driver tried to ram them.

NAZI-LIKE POGROMS: Arab Mobs Torch Shuls, Talmud Torah, Desecrate Sifrei Torah In Lod & Ramle

0

Arab mobs in the mixed Jewish-Arab city of Lod went on wild rampages overnight Monday “in solidarity” with their Arab brethren in the Gaza Strip, ransacking and torching shuls, desecrating Sifrei Torah, and setting Jewish schools on fire, including a Talmud Torah.

The Arabs, who raised Palestinian and Hamas flags in the course of the riots, also tried to set a police station on fire, attacked the Lod city hall and a museum, and tore down traffic lights and street signs.

The Arab mob also attacked the medical staff at the nearby Assaf HaRofeh Hospital, and some patients had to be evacuated for their safety.

The Arab mobs also threw stones and firebombs at Jewish homes and due to the multiple areas in the city where riots were taking place, police forces couldn’t reach every scene on time. Some Jewish residents whose lives were being threatened opened fire. One Arab was killed and two were wounded.

The resident who opened fire was later arrested by the police. His neighbors said that their lives were in danger and although they called the police dozens of times, they took over an hour to arrive. They initially fired shots in the air but nothing deterred the rioters until they shot at them, they said.

“It’s a sad morning for all of us in Lod,” wrote Lod Mayor Yair Revivo on Tuesday morning. “Seventy years of coexistence were trampled by Arabs rioters in a series of pogroms, destruction, vandalism, destruction of government symbols, shattering windshields, and throwing Molotov cocktails at the new town hall we began using just last week.”

“There was enormous damage to the mosaic museum, in which tens of millions of shekels were invested, the burning of shuls, a Talmud Torah, dozens of vehicles, burning garbage dumps, destroying Israeli flags and, worse than that, lowering the Israeli flag and raising the Palestinian flag, on a night of riots that injured policemen and residents who found themselves besieged.”

“It’s unfortunate that we’ve reached a situation in which a resident feels his life is at risk and uses firearms in the absence of a speedy response from the security forces who couldn’t manage to arrive due to the multiple incidents,” Revivo wrote.

Arab riots and pogroms also took place in the neighboring town of Ramle, where rioters shattered store windows and set fires and threw cement blocks and rocks at a Hesder Yeshiva while the students were in the building. The yeshivah’s Rosh Yeshivah said he called the police when the incident began but they didn’t arrive.

Arab riots also took place in Haifa and outside Arab towns and villages throughout the country. Israel Police recruited eight reserve Border Police battalions to help restore order.

Yasuhide Nakayama tweets well wishes and his stance that Israel has the right to defend itself from terror.

Dan Verbin , May 11 , 2021

A prominent Japanese politician is expressing his support for Israel during the present difficult circumstances of ongoing rocket attacks from Gaza.

Yasuhide Nakayama, Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee, in a tweet stated that “our heart is with Israel.”

“What would you do? One day, more than 300 rockets were suddenly shot by terrorists in 24 hours, robbing the lives of their beloved family and their homes. Israel has the right to protect itself from terrorists. Who was the first to shoot a rocket at the general public?” tweeted Nakayama who was previously Japan’s state minister of defence.

The Simon Wiesenthal Centre thanked Nakayama for his support of Israel in a retweet.

“Some world leaders know the truth and are unafraid to articulate it. G-d bless State Minister of Defense Nakayama!” the Simon Wiesenthal Center tweeted.

DEVELOPING: Massive rocket barrage targets Tel Aviv area, at least 1 killed

0

Gaza terrorists fire over 500 rockets into Israel since Sunday. Gantz warns Hamas: “For each day you fire on Israelis, we will set you back years.”

One hundred and thirty rockets were fired at Tel Aviv and surrounding cities. Direct hits in Holon and Givatayim.

Explosions shook central Israel Tuesday night as scores of Iron Dome rockets were launched to intercept a barrage of 130 rockets fired by Palestinian terrorists in Gaza
at the most heavily populated part of the country.

Initial reports indicated one woman was killed and about a dozen injured, with those numbers expected to change as first responders reached areas where there were explosions.

The death was in the city of Rishon LeZion. The woman, 50, was reportedly hit by shrapnel, Channel 12 reported.

Seven were injured from a direct hit in Holon, just south of Tel Aviv. A passenger bus also burned in the street after it was hit by a rocket.

Ambulance crews evacuated three people to the hospital in moderate condition including a man, 50, a woman, 30, and a girl, 5, said Magen David Adom spokesman Nadav Metzer.

Four were lightly injured by a direct hit in Givatayim, a city bordering Tel Aviv to the east.

Flights heading to Israel were redirected to Cypress as Iron Dome interceptors were documented exploding over Ben Gurion International Airport, Channel 12 reported. The airport was temporarily closed and re-opened after around an hour.

The attack came shortly after the Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad terror groups in Gaza issued an ultimatum around 9:00 p.m. warning that they would attack Tel Aviv if Israel did not stop bombing buildings in the Gaza Strip.

Israel was retaliating for a massive rocket attack initiated by Hamas on Monday evening and which continued into Tuesday, claiming the lives of two Israeli civilians by afternoon.

“The building was shaking with every Iron Dome interception. They felt close,” said WIN’s managing editor David Isaac from his apartment building in Ramat Gan, a city to the east of Tel Aviv.

The first wave of rockets was launched at 10 minutes before nine, setting off air raid sirens from Ashdod in the south to as far north as Netanya and east to the city of Raanana, the entire area home to some 5 million Israelis.

In the northern neighborhoods of Tel Aviv the sirens began at 8:47 p.m., said WIN reporter Lauren Marcus.

“We expected it because of the 9:00 p.m. warning from Palestinian Islamic Jihad. There’s been a number of very loud booms from the iron dome interceptions – some of which shook the doors and windows pretty intensely. We have had three sirens as of 9:15,” said Marcus, showing there were at least three waves of rockets fired at the city.

“I would estimate we heard around 25 interceptions,” Marcus said, as the Iron Dome interceptor rockets blew up overhead to destroy the incoming rockets before they could reach their targets.

The attack was the heaviest rocket attack on Tel Aviv. Isaac’s neighbors said the previous major attack during the war with Hamas in 2014 “wasn’t anything like this.”

“Neighbors gathered in the stairwell for safety. One said he saw explosions over the neighboring town of Givatayim as he drove home,” Isaac added.

Although political analysts estimated that the current round of violence might end in the coming days, the massive escalation is a new development that will likely extend the hostilities as Israel weighs its response.

“Hamas is responsible for this dangerous escalation which is putting millions of children, women & men in Israel at risk,” Israel’s Foreign Ministry tweeted. “Israel has every right to protect its citizens from Hamas’ barbaric terrorism.”

Earlier in the day, Defense Minister Benny Gantz authorized a callup of 5,000 reserve soldiers and the IDF publicized it’s deployment of heavy artillery on the Gaza border in a blunt message to Hamas.
