‘Shame on the French Court. Shame on the French legal system!’

0

Paris, Tel Aviv hold demonstrations protesting French court’s decision not to prosecute Sarah Halimi’s murderer.

The decision by France’s highest court to not prosecute the Muslim murderer of French Jewish woman Sarah Halimi is “clearly anti-Semitic”, former Israeli Ambassador to the United States Danny Ayalon charged, speaking to i24NEWS.

It would go down as a particularly shameful episode in the annals of the French legal system,

Protesters marched in Paris, Tel Aviv and elsewhere after France’s Supreme Court upheld a ruling that the man who killed 65-year-old Halimi in her flat in 2017 will not stand trial.

The court has ruled that the man, a heavy cannabis user who cried out “Allahu Akbar” as he threw Halimi off a balcony, was under a “delirious fit” and so is not fit for trial.

Addressing the rampant anti-Semitism in French society, International Legal Forum CEO Arsen Ostrovsky charged “How many more rallies do we have to see until the French Authorities understand the message: ‘Enough is enough.'”

French President Emmanuel Macron called last week for a change in the law to prevent murderers from resorting to a similar excuse in the future to escape justice; French Jewish groups said they will lobby for such a law.

Hamas urges Gaza terrorists to prepare missiles for attacks on Israel

0

The call comes in the wake of Arab riots in Jerusalem during the last several days and amid renewed rocket fire on Israeli communities from the Gaza Strip.

In a bulletin released on Sunday, Hamas said that the various armed groups in Gaza should “close ranks … and continue to gather in the Old City of Jerusalem and preserve the prayers at the Al-Aqsa Mosque.”

Hamas continued by praising the factions for “coping with the oppressive Zionist regime through determination” and added that they must “stay with the finger on the trigger by preparing the missiles and training them on the enemy’s bastions and essential military installations.”

The statement comes in the wake of violent Arab riots over the past several days and amid renewed rocket fire on Israeli communities from the Gaza Strip.

Hamas went on to call on the factions to “reach the Al-Aqsa Mosque and hold prayers in front of the military checkpoints that are preventing entry to Jerusalem. You must hold a presence all over Palestine during the night and make sure the settlers don’t infiltrate. We must confuse the Zionists.”

Hit with dire COVID crisis, India turns to Israel for help

Nachman Ash: ‘When you see the astronomic infection rates abroad you realize that the pandemic is yet to end’.

India, in the grip of a coronavirus outbreak of unprecedented proportions, requested medical assistance from Israel on Sunday.

India’s healthcare system has struggled to cope with the huge surge in infections, with reports of severe oxygen and medicine shortages and patients’ families pleading for help on social media.

The vast nation of over 1,300,000,000 people recorded 349,691 fresh cases and 2,767 deaths in the last 24 hours, the highest since the start of the pandemic.

Israel, that has seen a plunge in infections owing to a record-setting vaccination rollout, confirmed receipt of the request and said it’s being examined, according to a brief Foreign Ministry statement.

Israel’s coronavirus coordinator, Prof. Nachman Ash said that Israel is likely to help its south Asian ally.

“When you see the astronomic infection rates abroad you realize that the pandemic is yet to end. Israel, however, is doing really well,” the pandemic czar said.

“Israel is considering sending medical aid to India following the large spike in infections in the country.”

The United States and the European Union said they were readying vaccine supplies, ventilators and other forms of medical aid for the crisis-hit country.

Indonesia Navy Declares Lost Sub With 53 Aboard Sunk

0

BANYUWANGI, Indonesia (AP) — Indonesia’s navy on Saturday declared its missing submarine had sunk and cracked open after finding items from the vessel over the past two days, apparently ending hope of finding any of the 53 crew members alive.

Military chief Hadi Tjahjanto said the presence of an oil slick as well as debris near the site where the submarine last dove Wednesday off the island of Bali were clear proof the KRI Nanggala 402 had sunk. Indonesian officials earlier considered the vessel to be only missing, but said the submarine’s oxygen supply would have run out early Saturday.

Navy Chief of Staff Adm. Yudo Margono said at a press conference in Bali, “If it’s an explosion, it will be in pieces. The cracks happened gradually in some parts when it went down from 300 meters to 400 meters to 500 meters. … If there was an explosion, it would be heard by the sonar.”

The navy previously said it believes the submarine sank to a depth of 600-700 meters (2,000-2,300 feet), much deeper than its collapse depth of 200 meters (655 feet), at which point water pressure would be greater than the hull could withstand.

“With the authentic evidence we found believed to be from the submarine, we have now moved from the ‘sub miss’ phase to ‘sub sunk,’” Margono said at the press conference, in which the found items were displayed.

The cause of the disappearance was still uncertain. The navy had previously said an electrical failure could have left the submarine unable to execute emergency procedures to resurface.

Margono said that in the past two days, searchers found parts of a torpedo straightener, a grease bottle believed to be used to oil the periscope, debris from prayer rugs and a broken piece from a coolant pipe that was refitted on the submarine in South Korea in 2012.

Margono said rescue teams from Indonesia and other countries will evaluate the findings. He said no bodies have been found so far.

An American reconnaissance plane, a P-8 Poseidon, landed early Saturday and had been set to join the search, along with 20 Indonesian ships, a sonar-equipped Australian warship and four Indonesian aircraft.

Singaporean rescue ships were also expected Saturday, while Malaysian rescue vessels were due to arrive Sunday, bolstering the underwater hunt, officials said earlier Saturday.

Family members had held out hopes for survivors but there were no sign of life from the vessel. Indonesian President Joko Widodo had ordered all-out efforts to locate the submarine and asked Indonesians to pray for the crew’s safe return.

The German-built diesel-powered KRI Nanggala 402 had been in service in Indonesia since 1981 and was carrying 49 crew members and three gunners as well as its commander, the Indonesian Defense Ministry said.

Indonesia, the world’s largest archipelago nation with more than 17,000 islands, has faced growing challenges to its maritime claims in recent years, including numerous incidents involving Chinese vessels near the Natuna islands.

CA student government passes resolution to divest from companies active in Israel

0

Responding to the bill, Pomona College management released a letter expressing “deep concern” that the “vote was held without representation from any student opposition.”

The Associated Students of Pomona College in California (ASPC) “unanimously passed” a resolution calling for the divestment of its funds from companies “complicit in the occupation of Palestine,” the Claremont Students for Justice in Palestine announced on Instagram on Thursday.

According to a report in the Claremont Independent, the firms from which ASPC will divest “are drawn from a list compiled by the United Nations and include such popular companies as Airbnb and TripAdvisor [and] student clubs that fail to divest from [them] will face the loss of ASPC funding.”

The resolution—which called on “the other Claremont Colleges Student Government Associations to follow suit”—makes ASPC the second student government of the Claremont Consortium to enact a boycott of international companies active in Israel, following a similar resolution by the Pitzer Student Senate.

Responding to the development, Pomona College management released a letter “convey[ing] deep concern” that the “vote was held without representation from any student opposition.”

The letter further stated, “We believe this vote works against the dialogue that is critical for constructive engagement of diverse voices on our campus. The resolution’s stated goal of eventually enacting requirements that all student clubs supported by ASPC—not just ASPC itself—comply with its divestment stance or lose funding is also of deep concern, as it would require all students, regardless of their views, to participate in a boycott.”

“We urge ASPC to reverse course and allow for full discussion, and we welcome an open dialogue on this matter,” it added.

Dr. Mindy Boxer – Self-Care & Preventative Medicine

Should I get Acupuncture even when I’m not sick? This is a question I get often.
For thousands of years practitioners of Acupuncture & Traditional Chinese Medicine (or TCM) have emphasized the importance of preventing illness and disease. So the answer is yes, by definition Acupuncture and TCM work to keep the body in balance, not only to revive you when you when stricken by illness.
Going to the doctor when healthy is an obscure thought to those in the Western medical system. TCM practitioners look to many aspects of their patient’s lives beyond the physical aches and pains. According to TCM, there are many contributing factors that can bring the body out of balance. These include both internal and external factors such as seasonal changes, diet, physical activity, and emotional wellbeing.
Western allopathic medicine usually doesn’t recognize the role of emotions in creating illness beyond acknowledging stress exacerbates or causes 80 percent of all illnesses. According to TCM theory, specific emotions are linked to specific parts of the body: being stuck on any one emotion can bring that part of the body out of balance. Acupuncture and TCM can help us stay healthy by balancing these tendencies before chronic imbalances set in.
In one of the oldest books on TCM, “The Inner Classics of the Yellow Emperor,” compiled around 100 B.C.E., it’s written that excess joy slows and scatters Qi, excess anger causes Qi to ascend, excess sadness and grief weakens Qi, excess worry knots and binds Qi, fear descends Qi and fright induces chaotic Qi. The good news is each excessive emotions can be ‘harnessed,’ transformed and channeled into a virtuous emotion, which restores harmony and wellbeing. This transformation of emotions from excess to virtue is a vital aspect of the Yang-Sheng or preventative branch of Traditional Chinese Medicine.
Among the most common of excess emotion is the tendency of overthinking, worry and rumination; this will tend to result in digestive issues and/or metabolism concerns, as well as muscular tension and pain. In order to maintain optimal health one must learn to transform overthinking and worry into the virtue of creativity and dynamic insight.
Developing a regular meditation practice, even five to ten minutes once a day, can make a difference! You will develop the discipline to redirect worry and overthinking into resting in the present moment more often. A quote from “The Dhammapada” (The Buddha’s Path of Wisdom) expresses this, “As the bee collects nectar and departs without injuring the flower, or its color or scent, so let a sage dwell in his village.” When you find yourself worrying, compare your thoughts to a bee. Allow yourself to collect the ‘pollen’ of your thought while also germinating future ideas. This will transform your thoughts into nectar. A bee does not cling to only one flower.
Acupuncture can help you let go and move forward.
Try using acupressure atST-36 and SP-3 to transform worry into creative action.

acupuncture point stomach-36ST-36 is the great harmonizer point: this point does it all! ST-36 can help motivate you, improve your energy, digestion, and boosting your immune system! Locate this point by placing one hand just below the outer knee cap (index finger by the knee cap), use your other hand to find ST-36 (just below your pinky finger) just off the outer shin.

acupuncture point Spleen-3Pair ST-36 with acupressure at SP-3 to clarify your mind and regulate your digestion. Locate SP-3 along the inside of the foot, run your finger along the edge of the big toe until your finger ‘falls’ into a divot, about a three-finger width from the base of the big toe.

Look for future articles for tips on transforming other excessive emotions and nourish your vitality and wellbeing with the wisdom of Traditional Chinese Medicine.

Phyllis Shallman -Two Techniques to Help You Prepare for Retirement

0

As with anything important, saving for retirement can be intimidating.

It’s a natural instinct to avoid tasks that seem overwhelming. But not preparing adequately for retirement can have serious consequences—you may find yourself rapidly approaching that time in your life with little saved!

Here are two simple, actionable steps that can help you overcome the intimidation of saving and move you closer towards your financial goals.

Save 15% of your income. This is a good rule to follow for the long term, but it may not be realistic all the time. Elderly parents living with you? A child going through college? If saving 15% feels impossible or overwhelming, start by setting aside something more manageable. Saving 1% of your income may not feel like much, but it’s far better than putting away nothing! And once you get used to saving, you might be surprised by how eager you are to increase that percentage.

Automate savings so they happen without any effort on your part. Set up an automatic monthly transfer from your checking into your savings accounts. This way, you’ll never have to worry about forgetting or neglecting your savings. It’s helpful to schedule the transfer right after you get paid. This technique, called “paying yourself first”, results in your paycheck helping to build wealth for you, and not someone else!

It’s never too early–or too late–to start saving for retirement. The earlier you begin, the more time your money has to grow and compound over a lifetime. And even starting closer to retirement is still better than never starting at all! Begin with these two techniques, and develop your strategy from there.

GOP lawmakers introduce bill to require Iran deal to be submitted as treaty

0

A treaty is different in that it requires congressional approval
under Article I of the U.S. Constitution.

Legislation to make it harder for the Biden administration to re-enter the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), or Iran nuclear deal, was introduced in both houses by Rep. Andy Barr (R-Ky.) and Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.).

The Iran Nuclear Deal Advise and Consent Act of 2021 (H.R. 1479) was introduced on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives by Barr on March 2 and would cut off funding for the administration’s efforts to rejoin the JCPOA unless and until the administration submits an agreement to Congress for approval as a formal treaty.

A treaty requires congressional approval under Article I of the U.S. Constitution.

“Recently, Iran announced their intentions to increase their uranium enrichment, accelerating their path towards a nuclear weapon. By even considering rejoining the JCPOA at this point, the Biden administration is threatening to undermine the American-Israeli alliance and further exacerbate the conflict over Iran’s nuclear weapons pursuit,” Barr said in a news release on Wednesday.

“Barr-Blackburn ensures Congress will serve as a check on the Biden administration’s urge to rejoin the failed JCPOA and reclaims congressional oversight over the international treaty process … .”

Blackburn introduced a companion bill in the Senate on Monday with co-sponsors Sens. Steve Daines (R-Mont.), Thom Tillis (R-N.C.), Mike Rounds (R-S.C.), Kevin Cramer (R-N.D.), Joni Ernst (R-Iowa), Ted Cruz (R-Texas), Mike Lee (R-Utah) and Rick Scott (R-Fla.).

Earlier this month, Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi announced that the country will increase its uranium enrichment to 60 percent, in violation of the JCPOA, after a blast hit the country’s Natanz nuclear facility.

The Washington Post reported on Monday that efforts to return the United States and Iran back into compliance with the JCPOA are moving forward in meetings being held in Vienna, coordinated by a Joint Commission which includes Britain, France, Germany Russia, China and Iran—all signatories to the original agreement—with the United States participating indirectly.

The Biden administration indicated earlier this year its interest in re-entering the deal after the Trump administration withdrew from it in May 2018, re-imposing sanctions on Iran and adding new ones.

In a further attempt to stall the administration’s progress, congressional Republicans on Wednesday presented the largest package of sanctions on Iran in history in an effort to indicate to the Biden administration the GOP’s opposition to the deal, according to The Washington Free Beacon.

Arab rioters return to Jerusalem for another night of chaos

0

After Israeli police arrested dozens during Friday night rioting in Jerusalem, Arabs returned on Saturday and tangled with law enforcement.

On Saturday night, Palestinians again gathered in Jerusalem to provoke police outside the Old City’s Damascus Gate

This location has been the site of nightly clashes since the Muslim month of Ramadan began.

Officers attempted to move Palestinians away from the stairs outside the gate.

In recent weeks, Arabs have also uploaded videos to social media of random violent attacks on Jews.

On Saturday night, Israel Police Commissioner Kobi Shabtai blasted “extremists from both sides,” referring to Arab rioters and Jewish activists who staged a protest march over the violence on Thursday night.

On Friday evening, Israeli police said 44 people were arrested and 20 officers were wounded in a night of chaos in Jerusalem, where security forces separately clashed with Palestinians angry about Ramadan restrictions and Jewish activists who held a march nearby.

Meanwhile, Palestinian terrorists in the Gaza Strip fired over 30 rockets toward Israel late Friday and early Saturday in the worst cross-border flare-up in months. Some of the missiles were intercepted by Israeli air defenses and others fell near the Gaza frontier.

The Palestinian Front for the Liberation of Palestine claimed responsibility for some of the rocket fire and Hamas’ armed wing warned Israel “not to test” its patience.

Meanwhile, hundreds of people challenged nightly curfews imposed by Gaza’s Hamas rulers to curb the coronavirus outbreak and took to the streets in an act of solidarity with fellow rioters in Jerusalem.

But late Friday, dozens of Palestinians marched toward an entrance to the walled Old City of Jerusalem and threw stones and other items at officers. Six Palestinians were injured with two hospitalized.

Palestinians have clashed with Israeli police on a nightly basis since the start of the Muslim month of Ramadan. The tensions began when police placed barricades outside the Old City’s Damascus Gate, where Muslims traditionally gather to enjoy the evening after the daytime fast.

Late Thursday, hundreds of Palestinians hurled stones and bottles at police, who fired a water cannon and stun grenades to disperse them. Dozens of Palestinians were wounded in the melee.

Meanwhile, a right-wing Jewish group known as Lehava led a march of hundreds of protesters chanting “Arabs get out!” toward the Damascus Gate. The show of force came in response to videos circulated on TikTok showing Palestinians violently attacking religious Jews at random.

Videos circulated online showed smaller clashes and fires elsewhere in the city. One video showed what appeared to be a group of Palestinians beating an ultra-Orthodox Jew near Damascus Gate. They could be seen punching, kicking and throwing him to the ground before police chased them off.

The U.S. Embassy said it was “deeply concerned” about the violence in recent days. “We hope all responsible voices will promote an end to incitement, a return to calm, and respect for the safety and dignity of everyone in Jerusalem,” it said in a statement.

Tens of thousands of Palestinians attended weekly prayers at the Al-Aqsa mosque compound in Jerusalem’s Old City on Friday, a structure built on top of the Temple Mount, which is Judaism’s holiest site.

Sheikh Muhammad Hussein, the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem, condemned the “police and settlers’ attack on Palestinians in Jerusalem” in his Friday sermon.

The sprawling hilltop compound has seen clashes on a number of occasions over the years and was the epicenter of the 2000 Palestinian intifada, or uprising.

“After a long series of protests and demonstrations, we have reached the conclusion that without weapons, we cannot liberate our land, protect our holy sites, bringing back our people to their land or maintain our dignity,” said senior leader of the Hamas terror group, Mahmoud Zahar, on Friday.

EU to present action plan for combating anti-Semitism

0

The “comprehensive” program is set to receive $1.8 billion in funding.

The European Union will release a detailed action plan later this year aimed at combating anti-Semitism, spokesperson Margaritis Schinas announced on Tuesday.

The strategy “will provide a comprehensive framework to complement and support member states’ effort on preventing and combating anti-Semitism, educating on Holocaust remembrance and fostering Jewish life in Europe,” said Schinas, as quoted by the pan-European media network Euractiv.

E.U. leaders signed a declaration last year that called on European governments to enforce harsher punishments for online hate crimes and anti-Semitism.

“For the next seven years, we will have a new set of standing Citizens Equality Rights and Values program, which will seek to protect and promote open rights-based, democratic, equal and inclusive societies based on the rule of law,” said Schinas.

The new program is set to receive $1.8 billion in funding, making it “the biggest-ever E.U. program for supporting fundamental rights inside the E.U.,” added Schinas.

U.N. High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet said that the E.U. and the greater international community needs to “seize the moment” by supporting efforts against racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia and related intolerance around the world.
