Honeymoon over? UAE blames Israel for Jerusalem Arab riots

Although it condemned “all forms of violence and hatred,” Abu Dhabi put the onus on Israel to stop the violence.

The UAE reprimanded Israel for the last two weeks of Arab rioting in Jerusalem Sunday, saying that it was Israel’s obligation to reduce the violence.

A statement put out by its foreign ministry and published by the official WAM news agency called on “the Israeli authorities to assume responsibility toward de-escalation and putting an end to all aggressions and practices that perpetuate tension and hostility.”

It specifically pointed an accusatory finger at a Jewish counter-protest that took place Thursday night near the Old City walls.

“The United Arab Emirates has expressed concern over the acts of violence committed by right-wing extremist groups in the occupied East Jerusalem, which have resulted in injuries among civilians,” said the statement.

Hundreds of members of the Lehava organization had gathered near Damascus Gate against the recent Arab attacks on Jewish passersby and police in which stones, Molotov cocktails and fireworks were used.

The Arabs who arrived in reaction to the “provocation,” as one eye-witness called it, were separated from the Jewish group by a heavy police presence.

While many in the Jewish group shouted slogans like “Death to Arabs,” and some stones and bottles were thrown by both sides, the blue line held and the clashes that broke out involved only the Arabs and police.

According to the Palestinian Red Crescent, at least 100 Palestinians were injured, with one person reportedly shot in the head by a rubber-tipped bullet. Police said 20 officers were hurt as they used stun grenades and water cannon to disperse the violent crowds at several flashpoints. More than 50 people were arrested.

The UAE statement made no mention of the fact that the continual riots began on the first night of Ramadan on April 12 without any violence on the part of Israeli authorities or civilians to trigger them. For years, the Moslem holy month has been a time of increased Arab-on-Jew violence in Israel in general and in Jerusalem in particular.

The Foreign Ministry did “emphasize” the UAE’s “categorical rejection and condemnation of all forms of violence and hatred that contravene with all humanitarian values ??and principles.”

It also called for “maintaining maximum self-restraint to avoid the region slipping into new levels of instability in a way that threatens peace.”

Abu Dhabi’s criticism of Israel is one of very few that the UAE has issued since it signed the Abraham Accords last August. It also refused to allow Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to come for a state visit, which it reportedly feared would be used to burnish his credentials during the recent elections.

New York Times ‘buried’ bombshell that John Kerry told Iran about Israeli covert operations in Syria: Critics

0

‘At best, this shows that Kerry is enormously, irresponsibly indiscreet;
at worst, he’s callously exposing American intelligence to an enemy in order to attack an ally’.

The New York Times is taking criticism for “burying” a report that former Secretary of State John Kerry told Iran that Israel had attacked Iranian interests in Syria at least 200 times.

The story focuses on leaked audio of Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif speaking candidly about Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps, the powerful branch of Iran’s Armed Forces and a U.S.-designated terrorist organization. However, 21 paragraphs into a 26-paragraph story, the Times dropped a major revelation.

“Former Secretary of State John Kerry informed him that Israel had attacked Iranian interests in Syria at least 200 times, to his astonishment, Mr. Zarif said,” Times reporter Farnaz Fassihi wrote.

Kerry, now President Biden’s special climate envoy, served as President Barack Obama’s Secretary of State from 2013 to 2017, where he was instrumental in brokering the Iran nuclear deal. The deal was heavily opposed by Israel, with whom Kerry has frequently sparred.

Conservative critics questioned why the Kerry item wasn’t given more attention by the Times, given Iran is an enemy of the United States and Israel is a strong ally. The IRGC’s influence over Iran’s government is already well-known.

“While no one would be surprised to hear that Israel carries out covert operations against Iran, why in the world would an American Secretary of State pass that information to a regime that leads ‘Death to America’ protests in its streets? Isn’t this the real news in the US, especially with Kerry now joining another administration as its ‘climate change envoy’?” HotAir’s Ed Morrissey wrote.

“At best, this shows that Kerry is enormously and irresponsibly indiscreet; at worst, he’s exposing American intelligence to an enemy in order to attack an ally. And frankly, it looks a lot more like the latter than the former, and a lot more like an actual crime by a high-ranking US government official.”

National Review’s Jim Geraghty noted the Kerry revelation was “buried fairly deep” in the story. The piece also delved into Zarif’s rivalry with IRGC leader Qassem Soleimani, who was killed by a U.S. airstrike in Iraq in 2020.

President Donald Trump withdrew the United States from the Iran nuclear deal in 2018, infuriating Kerry and other Obama officials. Kerry revealed at the time he had engaged in behind-the-scenes diplomacy with Zarif to try to salvage the agreement.

Bronx synagogues remain on high alert amid spate of anti-Semitic vandalism

0

“From a security perspective, we are concerned that Jewish institutions are being harassed or vandalized for the third consecutive time in one week,” said Evan Bernstein, CEO and national director of the Community Security Services.

Law enforcement has stepped up its presence in front of Jewish institutions in the Riverdale section of the Bronx, N.Y., as detectives from the New York Police Department’s 50th precinct and its NYPD Hate Crimes Task Force continue to investigate a series of incidents at synagogues there.

The seven incidents occurred between April 23 and April 25 from the hours of 11:15 p.m. to 12:40 a.m. In several instances, a man was seen on camera throwing rocks at windows and doors, which caused them to shatter in some cases. The synagogues affected included the Riverdale Jewish Center, Chabad Lubavitch of Riverdale, Riverdale Jewish Synagogue, Young Israel of Riverdale and Conservative Synagogue Adath Israel of Riverdale.

At the Riverdale Jewish Center, the perpetrator was confronted by volunteers trained by Community Security Services. The man hurled rocks at the volunteers before fleeing. None of the volunteers were injured, and footage they took at some of the locations and photos confirmed that the same individual has been responsible for all of the acts of vandalism.

“From a security perspective, we are concerned that Jewish institutions are being harassed or vandalized for the third consecutive time in one week,” said Evan Bernstein, CEO and national director of CSS, which trains volunteers to help secure Jewish synagogues and institutions. “The eyewitness accounts of our volunteers, coupled with footage of the alleged perpetrator days before committing the acts, represents a clear desire to inflict harm on the Jewish community.”

According to the Jewish Community Study of New York: 2011 Comprehensive Report from the UJA-Federation of New York, more than 20,000 Jews live in the Riverdale/Kingsbridge sections of the Bronx, N.Y. The community includes nearly a dozen synagogues, Jewish day school and preschools, a senior residence and more.

In a tweet on Sunday that linked to a news report on the vandalism, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio wrote “UPDATE: The NYPD Hate Crimes task force has a solid lead on the vile acts of anti-Semitism in the Bronx, and we will take swift action against the perpetrators. If you have any more information on the case, contact the NYPD right away.”

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo also weighed in on the issue.

“I was appalled by a report that an individual threw rocks at glass windows and doors in two Bronx synagogues, smashing and breaking them,” the governor said in a news release on Sunday. “We have no tolerance for discriminatory acts that seek to divide us rather than bring us together.

“I am directing the New York State Police Hate Crime Task Force to immediately offer assistance in the investigation being conducted by the NYPD,” he continued. “We stand with Jewish New Yorkers—an essential part of the fabric of our state—as we do with all victims of bigotry, and I look forward to seeing this investigation resolved quickly.”

Democratic Rep. Jamaal Bowman, whose congressional district includes Riverdale, posted on social media: “We are angered, saddened and disturbed to hear of the anti-Semitic hate crimes in Riverdale. Riverdale is an inclusionary, accepting and loving community. Riverdale is a resilient community, and hate has no home there, or anywhere in our district, state or country.

“We condemn these hate crimes, and we and recognize the need to name the threat against our Jewish family and address it head-on,” he continued. “As we see a continued rise in anti-Semitism, we must remain vigilant and come together in love and care for one another—and against anti-Semitic hate.”

A chilling video showed the launch of the unnamed new weapon at Sary Shagan test site in Kazakhstan.

Major General Sergei Grabchuk told journalists that the anti-ballistic missile accurately hit its target.

The system is designed to protect against attacks from aerospace weapons, reported TV Zvezda, the Russian Defence Ministry’s channel.

Knesset members attacked by Arabs in Jerusalem

0

Smotrich told reporters at the scene that the way to look at the violence is not as a police problem, or a series of sporadic attacks, but as part of a national struggle by Arabs to drive Jews from their land.

Religious Zionism leader Bezalel Smotrich projected calm after he and a delegation of his fellow party members were attacked by Arab stone-throwers on Monday.

The rioters threw rocks, shot fireworks and threw firebombs at the MKs, Arutz 7 reports.

While holding one of the rocks that the Arabs threw and which shattered a window of a mini-bus, Smotrich said, “What we have here is a national struggle.”

“The State of Israel and the Israeli police need to push back this terror with an iron first – not with ‘understanding,’ not with surrender, not with concessions – but with a determined, pain-inducing iron fist in order that Jews can live and wander freely in every part of Israel, and, of course, in Jerusalem,” Smotrich said.

The delegation had been visiting a scene of frequent attacks in eastern Jerusalem near the Beit Orot yeshiva, which had been vandalized during Arab riots that began at the start of Ramadan, Arutz 7 reports.

Last Thursday night proved especially violent as Israelis marched in protest and Arabs responded with fury. The Arab riots are an escalation of earlier attacks designed to humiliate individual Jews. In some cases, the attacks were filmed and uploaded to social media.

Smotrich told reporters at the scene that the way to look at the violence is not as a police problem, or a series of sporadic attacks, but as part of a national struggle by Arabs to drive Jews from their land. Smotrich said it’s what the Arabs themselves are saying.

“Look at this rock,” Smotrich said, asking the reporters to imagine the bus he was standing in filled with children and warning a reporter to take care not to cut himself on broken glass. “This is attempted murder… Someone who heaves a block like this at an unprotected vehicle deserves a bullet center-mass to kill him because he’s a terrorist.”

Arabs blame the riots on barricades that the police put up to prevent them from congregating on steps leading to the Damascus Gate. On Sunday, Police Commissioner Yaakov Shabtai ordered the barricades removed. Smotrich and others in his party attacked the decision as giving in to the violence.

Arutz 7 reports that Arabs celebrated the news, chanting “In blood and fire we will redeem Palestine.”

Later on Monday, it was reported that two policewomen were injured and required medical attention when Arabs threw a table and other items at them in Jerusalem.

Arab MK Odeh: Hoping for an Intifada

Joint Arab List chairman writes in support of Arab violence in Jerusalem, hopes to see PA flags fly over the holy city.

MK Ayman Odeh, chairman of the Joint Arab Listand chairman of the Hadash party, expressed full support for the the Arab rioters in Jerusalem following the removal of police checkpoints from the Damascus Gate.

In a Facebook post, MK Odeh hoped that the struggles that would break out in Jerusalem from time to time would eventually lead to a “decisive intifada that would lead to the liberation of Jerusalem from the occupation.”

Odeh wrote: “The occupation backed down in the face of the young people of Jerusalem and removed the checkpoints at Bab al-‘Amud (Damascus Gate). It was the occupation that backed down in the face of the youth of Jerusalem and removed the electronic gates in the al-Aqsa Mosque.”

These are great and respectable positions for the residents of al-Quds (Jerusalem), and these are struggles that calm down and erupt until (the time of) of the decisive uprising that will lead to an end to the occupation and the hoisting of the Palestinian flag over the mosques of Jerusalem, the churches of Jerusalem and liberated Jerusalem.”

Iran’s foreign minister says John Kerry told him about Israeli covert operations in Syria

0

Kerry has previously been accused of colluding with Iranian leaders
to undermine Trump administration.

Iranian foreign minister Mohammad Javad Zarif claimed in recently leaked audio that John Kerry, when he was serving as Secretary of State during the Obama administration, informed him of more than 200 Israeli operations in Syria.

Kerry has previously been accused of colluding with Iranian leaders to undermine the Trump administration. Kerry is now a part of the Biden administration and has a seat on the National Security Council as the special presidential envoy for climate.

Kerry shocked Zarif by revealing that Israel had attacked Iranian targets in Syria more than 200 times, according to leaked audio obtained by The New York Times and other outlets.

Zarif also spoke frankly about his limited power compared to Ayatollah Ali Khameini and the blow the U.S. dealt to Iran by killing Gen. Qassem Soleimani in January 2020.

Kerry faced outrage on Monday over Zarif’s claim.

“John Kerry was ratting out Israeli covert operations in Syria directly to the Iranian foreign minister. Let that sink in. Wow,” Noah Pollak of the foreign policy-focused Democratic Alliance Group wrote on Twitter.

Former special advisor for Iran at the State Department Gabriel Noronha weighed in on Zarif’s lasting political career, despite his differences with others in Iranian governnment.

“The main reason Zarif has survived as Foreign Minister for 8 years in Iran’s cutthroat political environment is that he serves as the ‘reasonable’ storefront to the world, protecting the more empowered radical elements of the regime from Western and press scrutiny,” Noronha said in a statement.

“Most of the time, Zarif’s Foreign Ministry is relegated to the job of the marketing and PR team, justifying and defending the policy choices of the IRGC and Supreme Leader Khamenei abroad,” he continued. “I think the leak was likely instigated by regime insiders who have long hated Zarif and tried to oust him — they oppose current efforts to rejoin the JCPOA and also want to bolster domestic opposition to President Rouhani and his allies running for office in June.”

Outside of Iran, Zarif’s comments could also affect talks in Vienna aimed at finding a way for Tehran and the U.S. to both come into compliance with Iran’s 2015 nuclear deal with world powers.

Already, sabotage targeted Iran’s nuclear facility at Natanz during the talks as Tehran has begun enriching a small amount of uranium up to 60% purity, which edges the country closer to weapons-grade levels.

After the leak became public, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh did not dispute the tape’s authenticity. He told journalists on Monday that the recording represented just a portion of a seven-hour interview Zarif gave to a well-known economist that was to be held for posterity by a think tank associated with the Iranian presidency.

Khatibzadeh called the release of the recording “illegal” and described it as “selectively” edited, though he and others did not offer opinions on how it became public. Zarif, visiting Iraq on Monday after a trip to Qatar, took no questions from journalists after giving a brief statement in Baghdad.

Fox News’ inquiry to the State Department was not returned at the time of publication.

American Chareidi Resident Of French Hill Outed As Christian Missionary

0

Yeshiva World News/Crownheights.info

A well-known American family living in the French Hill neighborhood of Jerusalem have been revealed as Christian missionaries, B’Chadrei Chareidim reported on Sunday morning.

The father of the family served as a Sofer Stam, writing tefillin, mezuzos, and Sifrei Torah, and identified as a Kohen, even serving as the Kohen for firstborn babies, and has even married couples.

The children of the family were enrolled in neighborhood chadarim and Bais Yaakov schools. In fact, apparently, people first became suspicious of the family when one of the children began speaking about Christianity in school.

Following a thorough investigation by askanim it’s been revealed that the family made aliyah to Israel from the US with forged documents. The family first settled in the Nachlaot neighborhood in Jerusalem but after someone there uncovered their story, they relocated to French Hill.

They settled into the Chareidi community there but their goal of missionizing fell to the wayside after the mother became seriously ill with cancer. Of course, the community rose to the occasion, providing substantial assistance to the family, raising tzedaka for them and helping them in many other ways. The mother eventually passed away and the tzedaka fund to assist the family raised over $30,000.

After the father was confronted by the askanim, he admitted that his goal was to integrate into the Chareidi community and spread Christianity.

“They kept it secret until now because they didn’t want the father to run away again to another neighborhood,” Yoni Kaiman, a French Hill resident, told B’Chadrei. “They wanted to first work toward revoking his citizenship.”

“But the father began to cover his steps and stopped sending his daughters to Bais Yaakov so we decided to publicize it in the neighborhood so that everyone will know the real story and he won’t run away to another neighborhood.”

“When he was asked, he admitted that he was a missionary. We now have other askanim involved in order to take steps against the family.”

On Sunday morning, the father began to delete posts from his gentile Facebook profile.

“The investigators found that contrary to what the wife said before she passed away, that she was a child of Holocaust survivors, she was born to Christian parents and they have the documents to prove it,” Meir Eisenshtat, another French Hill resident, told B’Chadrei.

“Fortunately, we discovered the fraud now so we froze the donations that the Kupas Tzedaka collected to support the family. We’re in total shock.”

Los Angeles County Supervisor: U.S. Should ‘Make Amends,’ Return Land to Black Families

0

Los Angeles County Supervisor Janice Hahn said Friday that it is
time for the U.S. to “make amends” with black families in America
by returning to them land taken from their ancestors.

Hahn, who recently announced this month that she would give back land black owners lost through eminent domain to their descendants, added other governments outside of Los Angeles should follow her lead.

“I think this is the first time in our nation that a government has given land back to an African American family to make amends for past discrimination and atrocities and policies that were enacted, that really limited African Americans’ ability to own businesses, to own property, to even buy homes in certain neighborhoods,” she told TMZ on Friday.

“This is a very small step towards what I think this whole country should be doing — and that is working to repair and to make amends with the African Americans in this country,” she added.

The land Hahn is referencing is a beachfront plot in the Manhattan Beach neighborhood of Los Angeles, which the owners lost through eminent domain in 1924.

The plot is now worth about $72 million. Homes along the beachfront regularly sell for $20 million, according to a real estate broker’s listings website.

The owners, Willa and Charles Bruce, purchased the land in 1912 and created a beach resort catering to black clients before the city used eminent domain to seize the property.

The land was dormant for decades until the city built a park in 1960 and later renamed it Bruce’s Beach. Descendants of Willa and Charles Bruce sued, claiming the eminent domain program was racially motivated.

Report: Netanyahu offered Gantz to serve as PM first

Prime Minister Netanyahu spoke with Benny Gantz about new government, with Gantz serving as PM first for one year, followed
by Netanyahu.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu spoke with Defense Minister Benny Gantz about the possibility of forming a new government, Channel 12 reported Sunday night.

According to the report, the two spoke over the phone about a new rotational arrangement, whereby Gantz would serve as prime minister for the first year of a four-year term.

After his year as premier, Gantz would rotate out, with Netanyahu serving two years as prime minister, before rotating out and Gantz rotating back in for the fourth and final year.

Under the arrangement, Gantz would retain the Defense Ministry portfolio during the entire term.

The report said that Gantz was hesitant to accept, but did not reject the offer outright.

“I don’t see it being feasible,” Gantz is quoted as saying.
