Dr. Mindy Boxer -Four Ways Acupuncture Can Improve Men’s Health

Some men might not consider Acupuncture as a first resort when wanting a health reset, but Acupuncture can be a great way to deal with some of the issues that come with getting older. There are certainly more than four, but here are the top four ways Acupuncture can improve Men’s Health.

  1. Reducing Stress

Many lifestyle factors can help in reducing Stress levels. What many may not understand is how effective Acupuncture can be at helping to reduce Stress and Anxiety levels. I can stimulate specific points on the body which can release Endorphins that produce a calming effect on the Nervous System.

  1. Reducing Chronic Pain

A study published in the journal Pain Medicine, showed that Acupuncture was found to decrease pain intensity and frequency for people suffering from chronic low back pain. And this reduction in pain was seen after just one treatment session. Most patients experience relief with multiple sessions over several weeks, depending on the severity of the pain condition.

Studies have shown that Acupuncture reduces Inflammation, increases strength, improves range of motion and flexibility and can stimulate tissue repair.

  1. Improving Sleep Quality

Sleep is an essential component to good health as it allows our bodies to recover and heal. Men can struggle with achieving good sleep patterns due to high testosterone levels. Regular Acupuncture treatment addresses the underlying causes of poor sleep and can help men get a better night’s rest for up to six months post-treatment in some cases.

  1. Improving Fertility

Fertility issues tend to be a more talked about issue with women but men can also suffer from Infertility problems. Research shows that as many as one in six couples have trouble conceiving and up to half of Infertility issues are attributed to the male. Acupuncture can play a major role in helping to boost Sperm quality, quantity, motility, and vitality. Acupuncture can also address low Testosterone levels which can help with semen production, sex drive, and erectile dysfunction.

I also have an understanding of the importance of the Kidney Organ System in Sexual function and Fertility issues. A Kidney imbalance can contribute to a variety of issues and regular Acupuncture treatments can be a great benefit to men.

These are not the only four benefits Acupuncture can bring to improve Men’s Health but they are the most frequent reasons men seek out Acupuncture. Make sure you share any additional health concerns with me, as I can address a variety of issues including Nutrition, Allergies, Blood Pressure, and Prostate issues just to name a few. Make your appointment today and get a thorough health intake to address your concerns and get back on the road to health and wellness!

Phyllis Shallman – How Chasing Your Mission Changes Your Life

0

“He who has a why to live for can bear almost any how.”? Friedrich Nietzsche

The power of chasing your mission is that it creates almost limitless resilience.

That’s because a mission gives you a framework in which to understand your situation. And that can be invaluable when you’re faced with setbacks.

If you have no mission, you can become lost in thoughts like…

“Why am I doing this?” “This is pointless.” “I should just give up.”

And it makes perfect sense why! If the obstacles you’re facing aren’t part of a larger struggle to accomplish your mission, then why should you face them?

Without a mission, you render yourself potentially unable to overcome any challenges or obstacles! The “why” is missing, and you’re left with nothing but seemingly futile efforts.

What happens when you flip the script and live a mission-driven life? Here are some thoughts you may have when you encounter a setback…

“I don’t know how, but I know I can do this.” “If I can just get over this hump, my goals will be in reach.” “This sucks for now, but I’ll keep fighting until it gets better.”

So what can you do if you don’t have a mission? Here are a few ideas…

Take a poll of trusted friends, family, and loved ones about your talents. If there’s an overwhelming consensus, consider developing those talents into a mission statement.

Notice when you’re in the zone. That’s a sign that you’re doing something you find meaningful and purposeful. It’s worth integrating that activity into your mission.

Surround yourself with mission-oriented people. Inspiration is contagious. You might be surprised by how quickly the excitement of others rubs off on you.

If you’re seeking opportunities to chase a greater mission, contact me. I’d love to chat about what that could look like for you!

Jewish parents lose appeal in European court to keep daughter on life support

0

Attorney David Foster said the parents of 2-year-old Alta Fixsler hoped the ECHR would see that the original ruling “did not give adequate cognizance to their religious beliefs.”

The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) rejected an appeal by the parents of a brain-damaged Jewish child trying to stop a hospital from withdrawing their daughter’s life support, reported the BBC.

ECHR upheld a British court’s ruling in May that it was in the “best interests” of 2-year-old Alta Fixsler to withdraw life-support treatment, supporting an earlier decision by the Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust that “there was no prospect of her ever getting better.” ECHR said it agreed with the previous decision to place the toddler on palliative care.

Alta’s parents, who are Chassidic Jews, said the hospital’s plans to stop life-support for their daughter go against their Jewish faith and rights as parents. They want to take the critically ill child to a hospital in Israel, where they are citizens, or the United States, where the toddler has been granted a visa because of her father’s U.S. citizenship.

Justice MacDonald from the U.K. Family Division of the High Court said in May that taking her abroad would expose her to “further pain.”

In June, former Israeli President Reuven Rivlin appealed to Britain’s Prince Charles to allow the child to be brought to Israel for medical treatment. His request joined that of Israeli Health Minister Yuli Edelstein, who spoke with his British counterpart Matt Hancock about the matter.

David Foster, the family’s attorney, said the child’s parents hoped the ECHR would see that the original ruling “did not give adequate cognizance to their religious beliefs.”

He said, “They are extremely disappointed. It is a position no parent would like to find themselves in. We are considering our next steps. The legal route has ended, but it is still the case that an agreement could be reached. We also believe that excessive weighting has been given to ‘causing pain’ as a factor in the decision.”

Israeli Gymnast Linoi Ashram Wins Gold Medal At Tokyo Olympics

0

JERUSALEM (VINnews) — Israeli gymnast Linoi Ashram won Israel’s second gold medal of the Tokyo Olympics and only its third gold medal of all time. Ashram beat out fierce competition from identical Russian twin sisters Dina and Arina Averina and ended two decades of Russian dominance of rythmic gymnastics to take the gold medal. In Saturday’s final, Dina Averina, who is three-times world champion, took the silver, while Belarus’s Alina Harnasko bagged bronze.

Ashram, the 2018 world all-around silver medalist, had been in good form this season, but was not expected to beat the twin sisters who between them had won every major championship all-around title they had competed for since the 2016 Rio Olympics.

Rhythmic gymnastics, which has been a recognized Olympic sport since 1984, sees athletes perform exquisite contortions and maneuvers to music while using hoops, balls, clubs or ribbons.

Despite dropping her ribbon in the final round of the final, Ashram was able to score more than her opposition and gain the gold medal.

“It’s an amazing feeling to stand in this place, at this time, on the podium and in first place,” said the 22-year-old gymnast who has now been picked to carry the flag at the closing ceremony.

“It’s a crazy experience that I still haven’t fully digested and with peak levels of excitement,” Ashram said.

The Israeli team has also attained two bronze medals during a successful Olympic run in Tokyo.

G7: Iran ‘Threatens International Peace and Security’

0
By Aryeh Savir/TPS • 8 August, 2021

Jerusalem, 8 August, 2021 (TPS) — The Foreign Ministers of Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, the US and the High Representative of the European Union, known as the G7, stated that they “stand united” in their “commitment to maritime security and the protection of commercial shipping,” in wake of Iran’s recent attacks on ships in the Middle East.

The G7 “condemns the unlawful attack” committed on a merchant vessel off the coast of Oman last month, which killed a British and a Romanian national, saying it was “a deliberate and targeted attack, and a clear violation of international law.”

“All available evidence clearly points to Iran. There is no justification for this attack,” they charged.

“Vessels must be allowed to navigate freely in accordance with international law. We will continue to do our utmost to protect all shipping, upon which the global economy depends, so that it is able to operate freely and without being threatened by irresponsible and violent acts,” the group stated.

“Iran’s behaviour, alongside its support to proxy forces and non-state armed actors, threatens international peace and security. We call on Iran to stop all activities inconsistent with relevant UN Security Council resolutions, and call on all parties to play a constructive role in fostering regional stability and peace,” the statement concluded.

Israeli Foreign Minister Yair Lapid welcomed the G7 “important statement” and accused Iran of being “behind the attack on Mercer Street, just as it’s been behind multiple terror attacks across the world.”

“Iran isn’t just an Israeli problem, it’s a global problem. It’s time for the world to hold the Iranian regime to account,” he said.

Israel’s Ambassador to the US and the United Nations Gilad Erdan stated Friday that the statement issued by the G7 countries “shows that the world doesn’t believe the Iranian regime’s lies and recognizes that Iran threatens global peace and security.”

“Iran’s terrorist proxies cause instability and destruction throughout the region. The Security Council must hold Iran accountable, condemn its activities, and use all means at its disposal to stop Iran’s malign activities,” he demanded.

UK radio host jailed for 32 months for anti-Jewish rants

Cornwall man pleaded guilty to eight racial hatred counts for broadcasting “extreme hatred towards Jews” from garage studio.

A UK radio host from Cornwall who pleaded guilty to spreading anti-Semitic messages on his online show was given a 32-month prison sentence, reported BBC News.

In June Graham Hart, 69, pleaded guilty to eight racial hatred counts for incidents that occurred between 2016 and 2020.

Hart was also banned from broadcasting for 10 years.

Harts’s hateful rants were heard by the court, including examples of him calling Jews “filth” and “like rats” and saying that they should be “wiped out,” reported the Jewish Chronicle.

He allegedly said, “If you’re listening, Mister Jew, we’re coming to get you. Let’s get rid of the Jews, it’s time for them to go. After Christmas I’m going to work, going on the attack because I’ve had enough. I don’t want bloodshed but if that’s what it takes to get it done.”

Hart also stood accused of saying, “Why did Hitler want to gas them? Why did Hitler hate the Jews? Why have they been kicked out of 79 countries 199 times? Because they’re filth, that’s why.”

The judge said that Harted hosted or guest hosted radio broadcasts to “abuse, vilify, insult and threaten Jewish people” and that he converted his garage into a radio station to “peddle hatred.”

Prosecutor Dan Pawson-Pounds described Hart as taking about “taking up arms” to take back the country.

Hart’s lawyer, Mary McCarthy, had argued that her client was taken in by what he read on the internet and that the underlying reason for his hateful rants was “depression and obsession,” according to a BBC report.

“Graham Hart used his position to influence people as a radio host to stir up racial hatred and incite violence against the Jewish race,” said Nick Price, head of the Head of the Special Crime and Counter Terrorism Division of the Cornwall Police Service. “The CPS are committed to prosecuting hate crime and will continue to work as an independent body to ensure justice is served.”

A compilation of Hart’s anti-Semitic rants were submitted by Campaign Against Antisemitism (CAA) to police.

“The offences he committed constitute some of the most extreme hatred towards Jews that we have ever encountered. It is vital that the Jewish community is protected from this man, and we hope that the sentence will also send a message to like-minded people that hate towards British Jews will not be tolerated,” Campaign Against Antisemitism’s Stephen Silverman said.

Hezbollah rocket attacks serve as warning to Israel who’s ‘in control’

0

Hezbollah’s firing of 19 rockets at open areas indicates it will not “allow” Israeli airstrikes in Lebanon to go unanswered; the scope of Israel’s retaliation will determine the next stage of this controlled standoff.

For the first time since the Second Lebanon War in 2006, Hezbollah officially claimed responsibility for the rockets launched towards Israel.

Contrary to previous incidents of rocket fire from Lebanon, conducted by Palestinian factions, “here, Hezbollah took responsibility,” said Lt. Col. Amnon Shefler, IDF International Spokesperson.

“We believe that Hezbollah does not want a full-out war, and we definitely do not want one,” said Shefler. Nevertheless, “Israel is prepared to defend its civilians and will not allow any acts of terrorism,” he said, adding that the Israel Defense Forces was awaiting government directives over how to respond.

Hezbollah’s decision to fire 19 rockets at northern Israel on Friday came after the Lebanese terror organization took 24 hours to deliberate over a major dilemma: How should it respond to Israeli airstrikes in Southern Lebanon, launched early on Thursday morning?

The Israeli strikes targeted a Lebanese area that was used on Wednesday by a Palestinian terror faction to fire three Grad rockets at the Israeli northern town of Kiryat Shmona. The Israel Air Force also hit what it described as “infrastructure used for terror in Lebanon” and areas used by Palestinian factions to fire on Israel in the past as well.

It was the first time that Israeli jets struck in Southern Lebanon in many years, and Hezbollah’s leadership found itself in a bind. While the terror group certainly isn’t interested in a war with Israel at this time, it also feared the idea that Jerusalem would begin getting “used” to openly striking terror targets in Lebanon—a trend that the Iranian-backed organization felt would chip away at the deterrence it had spent years building against Israel.

At 10:54 a.m., the results of Hezbollah’s decision came in. Warning sirens went off in four different areas in the Golan Heights and the Galilee. A 19-rocket barrage apparently fired from a vehicle-mounted launcher triggered the sirens. Three rockets fell inside Lebanon and 16 crossed into Israeli air space. Of those, the Iron Dome air-defense system intercepted 10 projectiles, and six fell in open areas.

‘The dogs of Hezbollah are firing from the Druze heartland’

According to the IDF’s assessment, Hezbollah is signaling that it will not allow Israeli airstrikes to pass without retaliation. Shefler said the terror organization is also trying to signal its control of Southern Lebanon, although he added that Wednesday’s rocket attack shows “precisely that they don’t have that control because Palestinian factions shot rockets from there.”

The Lebanese government also has no tangible control of Southern Lebanon, he noted. Thus, the growing anarchy in Lebanon has already led to a security escalation.

While Iranian-backed terrorism is occurring throughout the region—from the Gulf region to the Israeli-Lebanese border—Shefler expressed doubt that Iran ordered Hezbollah to conduct this specific rocket attack, suggesting instead that it was an independent Hezbollah decision.

Following the attack, the Israeli defense establishment began an intensive series of assessments. At IDF General Headquarters in Tel Aviv, Defense Minister Benny Gantz met with IDF Chief of Staff, Lt. Gen. Aviv Kochavi, as well as the head of the IDF Operations Branch and the head of Military Intelligence to formulate response options for the security cabinet.

Meanwhile, a dramatic and unexpected twist occurred in Lebanon itself, when villagers from the southern Lebanese Druze village of Shwaya discovered a vehicle-mounted rocket-launcher and a Hezbollah operative traveling through their area.

Angry villagers quickly surrounded the operative, who was rescued by village elders and handed over to the Lebanese Armed Forces. The LAF later announced that it had arrested four suspects.

“Let the whole world see. Hezbollah is firing from near homes so that it [Israel] hits us,” a Druze villager said on a video posted to social media.

The furious response by the villagers indicates that Hezbollah can expect no cooperation from Lebanese Druze in any future attempt to use them as human shields. Such tensions also represent simmering sectarian fault lines in Lebanon, which are becoming more acute as the country continues to experience massive economic and political crises.

“The dogs of Hezbollah are firing from the center of the Druze heartland,” a villager said in the video.

Palestinian factions are working inside Lebanon

Meanwhile, the identity and specific motivations of the Palestinian factions in Lebanon who have been behind rocket attacks in recent months remain mysterious. It’s not yet clear whether they are affiliated with Hamas, Palestinian Islamic Jihad or other groups. Their organizational affiliations are indirect.

The Israeli defense establishment is still gathering information on their identities, though their areas of operation are well known by now.

The IAF sent four fighter jets to attack areas used by the factions on Thursday after IDF artillery guns targeted their areas on Wednesday in response to the rockets aimed at Kiryat Shmona.

“We do not wish to escalate to a full war,” said Shefler on Friday, adding, however, that “we will not allow these acts of terror to continue. We will wait for the government’s directives to see how things will continue.”

Israelis Discover Key to Early Cancer Detection

0

Israeli study finds key to early detection of metastatic breast cancer.

A new study from Tel Aviv University discovered changes in healthy lung tissue which indicate preparation to receive metastases, a finding that may enable preventive diagnosis and prophylactic treatment before the appearance of lethal metastases.

The changes were identified in the area known as “the micro-environment” of the tumor, and specifically in connective tissue known as fibroblasts.

Researchers say that these changes in the tissues are an early sign for the possible development of disseminated cancerous cells – metastases. Understanding the metastatic process and its diagnosis at such an early stage may lead to life-saving prophylactic treatment, they say.

The study was led by Prof. Neta Erez, Chair of the Dept. of Pathology at the Sackler Faculty of Medicine, along with the research team of her laboratory, Dr. Ophir Shani and Dr. Yael Raz.

The researchers explained that in many types of cancers, among them breast cancer, patients do not necessarily die from the primary tumor. In the end, the main cause of mortality is metastases, which arrive at the essential organs and proliferate there.

Metastases may appear after several years even in patients who have undergone all the treatments offered, including surgical removal of the primary tumor, subsequent chemotherapy and radiation, intended to destroy any residual tumor.

Methods used for follow-up today locate metastases only when they are quite large – when the disease is at an advanced stage, and medicine does not have curative solutions.

For this reason, Prof. Erez’s research group is investigating the ‘black box’ – the time period between apparent recovery and the appearance of metastases, for the purpose of understanding the metastatic process and identifying it in its early stages.

Their research in the last years has revealed that designated tissues, in organs where the metastases are set to arrive, ‘prepare the area’ for reception and produce a hospitable environment for them, a long time before the appearance of the metastases themselves.

In the present study, the research team searched for signs of these changes, which may be used in the future to identify the start of the process. The researchers focused on connective tissue cells known as fibroblasts which are found in the lungs among other places.

Erez explained that “in a normal situation, fibroblasts play a central role in healing wounds and injury to the lungs, but recent studies revealed that cancer is successful in recruiting them and causing them to produce a supportive environment for it. Within the framework of the present study, we performed sequencing of all the genes which are expressed (transcriptome sequencing) in fibroblasts taken from the lungs of mice in a model of breast cancer metastasis.”

The researchers compared the sequencing results sampled from healthy lungs, from lungs with micro-metastases, very small metastases which cannot be identified using existing clinical tools, and from lungs with large metastases, in a state of advanced disease.

Based on the changes identified from stage to stage, researchers have succeeded, for the first time, in characterizing the process occurring in the micro-environment of the metastases, already in the early stages of preparation of the area for its reception.

In addition, they specifically identified the proteins that initiate the ‘rewiring’ processes in fibroblasts and discovered that one of the central proteins in the process is MYC – known as a central driver in accelerating the division of cancerous cells.

This study revealed that MYC also plays an important role in the changes occurring in fibroblasts towards the reception of the metastases.

Erez said she believes that in the future, the findings can aid in the identification of the metastatic process even before the disseminated cancer cells thrive and colonize the metastatic organ, with the purpose of providing prophylactic treatment.

“Such treatment, which will prevent the development of metastases, may save the lives of millions of people worldwide,” she concluded.
